A Good Ceiling Makes a Room Feel Alive.

People blame the furniture or the paint colour when a room does not feel right. Nine times out of ten, the ceiling is the real problem. Le Lume designs and builds ceiling and lighting systems that make rooms feel the way they are supposed to, in both residential and commercial spaces across Malaysia.

Why Most Ceiling & Lighting Work Disappoints?

  • Lighting is planned after the ceiling is built.
  • No coordination between the ceiling and aircon.
  • Wires and pipes are hidden without proper access.
  • Wrong ceiling height kills the room.
  • No consideration for natural light at all.

How We Work for Modern Ceiling & Lighting Design in Malaysia

Step
01
Space Assessment
We look at the room before anything is drawn. Existing slab height, aircon positions, beam locations, natural light entry points, and how the space connects to adjacent rooms.
Step
02
Ceiling and Lighting Design Together
The ceiling and the lighting are designed at the same time, not separately. Where cove lighting sits, where recessed lights go, where pendants drop, and how the aircon grilles are integrated.
Step
03
M&E Coordination Before Any Work Starts
Electrical points, light switches, aircon trunking, and data lines inside the ceiling void are all mapped out and agreed on before the first frame goes up.
Step
04
Installation by Our Own Team
There is no handoff to a subcontractor who was not in the room when the design decisions were made. Every profile, every cover detail, every light cutout position is executed exactly as drawn.
Step
05
Quality Check Before Handover
Every ceiling is checked before we leave the site. Surface flatness, joint quality, cove profile accuracy, light alignment, and switch function.

We Know Which Ceiling Works for Which Space.

We work across the full range of ceiling and lighting systems used in Malaysian residential and commercial construction. Not every ceiling type suits every space, and in Malaysia's climate, where aircon integration, humidity, and ceiling height all vary from one building to the next, the wrong choice creates problems that are expensive to fix after the fact. The right ceiling for your space depends on three things: how high your slab is and how much clearance you can afford to lose, what lighting effect you are trying to achieve, and what needs to be hidden inside the ceiling void. We look at all three before anything is drawn. The design comes after.

From First Concept to Handover, Under One Roof.

Most renovation projects in Malaysia separate the designer from the partition contractor from the M&E subcontractor. Each works from a different drawing set, and no one is responsible for where they meet. At Le Lume, the design team and the construction team have the same operation.

Questions We Get Asked About False Ceiling and Lighting.

What is an open ceiling and when does it work?

An open ceiling means leaving the concrete slab exposed and working with it rather than covering it with a false ceiling. It works well in spaces with generous height, industrial or raw aesthetics, and commercial environments like cafes, creative offices, and showrooms. The key is treating the exposed slab, pipes, and ducts intentionally so they read as a design decision rather than an unfinished space.

A timber slat ceiling uses parallel strips of wood fixed to a frame, leaving gaps between each slat. It adds warmth and texture to a space that plain gypsum cannot achieve. It is suitable for Malaysia when the right timber or engineered wood is used and the space is air-conditioned. Solid timber in a humid, poorly ventilated space will warp over time. Engineered wood slats handle Malaysia’s climate significantly better.

When the space produces echo or noise that affects how people use it. Home theatres, meeting rooms, restaurants with hard surfaces, and recording spaces all benefit from acoustic ceiling panels or rockwool infill above a perforated ceiling board. In Malaysia, open-plan offices and F&B spaces are the most common environments where acoustic ceiling treatment makes a meaningful difference to how comfortable the space feels day to day.

Warm white sits around 2700K to 3000K and produces a soft, yellowish light that feels relaxed and comfortable. It is the right choice for bedrooms, living rooms, restaurants, and hospitality spaces. Cool white sits around 4000K to 6500K and produces a brighter, bluish-white light that feels alert and clinical. It is better suited for kitchens, bathrooms, offices, and workspaces where visibility matters more than atmosphere. Most Malaysian homes look better under warm white than they realise.

Ambient lighting is the general light that fills the room. Task lighting is directed at a specific area where work happens, like a kitchen counter or a desk. Accent lighting highlights something specific, like a feature wall, artwork, or an architectural detail. A well-lit room uses all three at different intensities. Most renovation projects in Malaysia install only ambient lighting and wonder why the space feels flat.

Yes, wherever the room serves more than one purpose or mood. A living room used for watching films, hosting guests, and reading in the evening needs different light levels for each situation. Dimmable lighting gives you that control without changing any fittings. The key is specifying dimmable LED drivers and compatible switches from the start. Fitting a standard driver and trying to add a dimmer later almost always causes flickering.

It depends on what the space needs people to feel. Retail spaces generally use 3000K to 4000K to make products look appealing without feeling clinical. Restaurants and cafes use 2700K to 3000K to create a relaxed, warm atmosphere that encourages people to stay longer. Offices work best at 4000K where focus matters. Hospitals and clinics use 5000K and above for visibility and hygiene. The wrong colour temperature for the wrong environment is one of the most common and most overlooked mistakes in Malaysian commercial fit-outs.
